Confluence of Indus & Zanskar Rivers
One of the major attractions along the Indus River on the Leh-Srinagar National Highway is the confluence of Indus and Zanskar rivers, located 3 km southeast of Nimmu village. Watching the brown water of the murky Zanskar river flowing into the green water of the Indus river is a sight to behold. Over the years, the Zanskar river has become popular among tourists for rafting and the site serves as the ending point of the rafting routes.
Magnetic Hill
The Magnetic Hill, located 28 km from Leh on the Leh-Srinagar highway, is a mysterious stretch of road which defies gravity. Here, vehicles left with engine turned off and in neutral gear are pulled uphill against gravity… It is said that this phenomenon is due to a powerful magnetic force originating from the hill and that aircrafts of the Indian Air Force have been diverting their route to avoid the strong magnetic field in this area. Hall of Fame
It is a museum constructed by the Indian Army in memory of the brave Indian soldiers who laid down their lives defending the motherland in the Indo-Pak wars. The Hall of Fame museum is located on the Leh-Kargil Road, about 4km from the city of Leh. It stands as a reminder of the great sacrifices made by our soldiers to ensure the safety and security of our country.
Gurudwara Pathar Sahib
Gurudwara Pathar Sahib is a highly revered gem located 25 miles away from Leh town on Kargil Leh Highway. Devoted to Guru Nanak Devi Ji, the founder of Sikh Religion, the sacred place beautifully commemorate his visit to Ladakh. Dating back to 1517, the Gurudwara houses a boulder with imprints of the head, shoulders and backside of Shree Guru Nanak Dev.Not only the Sikh and Hindu devotees but Tibetans also bow down with full devotion at the Pathar Sahib Gurudwara. The latter worship the presiding deity here as Lama Nanak or Guru Gompa Maharaj. A legend is associated with the place and makes it a famous pilgrimage spot for the people visiting Leh- Ladakh.
Leh Palace
The Leh Palace, also known as ‘Lhachen Palkhar’ is one of the most historically rich edifices that can be found in the country and is located in the breathtakingly beautiful Kashmir, in the town of Leh in India. This grand structure was built in the 17th century by King Sengge Namgyal as a royal palace, and the King and his family were the former residents of the majestic mansion. The Leh Palace is also one of the tallest buildings of its time with nine stories in all, and offers marvellous panoramic views of the entire town of Leh, as well as of the Stok Kangri and Zanskar mountains of the mighty Himalayan ranges, thereby giving the palace a strategic position.
Shanti Stupa
Built to promote world peace and prosperity as well as to commemorate 2500 years of Buddhism, Shanti Stupa is the major attraction in Leh. Perched on the mountain top, this religious place also offers a panoramic view of the city and the surroundings, and thus is a must-see.
This attraction in Leh was built at a part of the Peace Pagoda Mission by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura in 1991. It holds the relics of the Buddha at its base that were enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama.Underneath the stupa is the relic of the Buddha. Sunrise and sunset are considered to be the best time of the day to visit the Shanti Stupa when views from this place to visit in Leh are spectacular.
