Phyang to Hunder Nubra Valley Trek

The Phyang to Hunder trek offers an incredible journey from the Indus Valley to the Nubra Valley, crossing the high-altitude Lasermo La pass. This trek follows an ancient trade route connecting the Indus and Nubra valleys which was part of the old Silk Road network stretching from India to Central Asia. This trek leads you through a picturesque valley where villagers traditionally brought their yaks, cows, and pashmina goats to graze throughout the summer.

Day 1: Phyang – Phyang Phu

Time: 7-8 hrs
Distance: 13.6 km

Visit Phyang monastery which is built on a hilltop above the village.

Walk to Phyang Phu, an area where villagers bring their animals for grazing during summer

Day 2: Phyang Phu – South Base of Lasermo

Time: 2-3 hrs
Distance: 3.3 km
Elevation gain / loss: +334m / -0m

Gradually walk up to the base of Lasermo La

Day 3: South Base of Lasermo – Lasermo La – North Base of Lasermo

Time: 5-6 hrs
Distance: 10.4 km
Elevation gain / loss: +483m / -528m

It’s a long day today, start early to cross the Lasermo La pass.

Enjoy the great views of the mountains peaks, with the Indus valley on one side and the Nubra valley on the other side.

Day 4: North Base of Lasermo – Hunder Dok

Time: 4-5 hrs
Distance: 16.8 km
Elevation gain / loss: +0m / -849m

Walk down through a valley of meadows and flowers.

Follow the stream until Hunder Dok where you will find shepherd huts and animals grazing.

Day 5: Hunder Dok – Hunder

Time: 4-5 hrs
Distance: 15.4 km
Elevation gain / loss: +153m / -1054m

Pass through the villages of Drok Gongma and Drok Yokma before reaching Skarchen.

Walk in a beautiful valley until you reach the bridge; you will have a good view of Saser Kangri peak (7672m) on the way.

Walk through the sand dunes of Hunder. This high altitude cold desert is home to Bactrian camels, a reminder of the Silk Route times.
